How do you calculate lot size in forex?
Lot size = (account balance x risk %) ÷ (stop loss in pips x pip value per lot). Work out your risk amount first, then divide it by what you'd lose per lot at your stop distance.
What is a good risk percentage per trade?
Many traders risk 1-2% of their account per trade, so a run of losses doesn't do serious damage. The right figure depends on your strategy and risk tolerance.
How is pip value calculated?
Pip value per lot = pip size x contract size, in the quote currency. For EUR/USD that's 0.0001 x 100,000 = $10. For pairs not quoted in USD, that amount is converted to dollars at the current exchange rate, which this calculator does automatically.
What is a good risk-to-reward ratio?
Many traders look for at least 1:1.5 or 1:2, risking one unit to make one and a half or two. A higher ratio means you can stay profitable with a lower win rate.
Does this work for gold, indices and crypto?
Yes. Gold uses a 100oz contract (about $1 per point per lot), silver 5,000oz, and indices and crypto use 1x CFD contracts where one lot is worth roughly one unit of the quote currency per point. Broker contract sizes vary, so confirm with yours for exact figures.
What does slippage cost me?
Every pip lost to a late or missed entry has a dollar value. Multiply your signals per week by the pips you typically lose per entry and your value per pip, and the monthly figure adds up fast. The slippage calculator does this for you.
